Texas Singer/Songwriter
Born and raised in the central Texas small town of Markham, singer/songwriter and guitarist Darryl Lee Rush spins whimsical tales of rural and urban Texas over gutsy and dusty backbeats. When he was old enough to play the honky tonks, Rush moved to Austin and joined the Big Johnsons. A chance to join the folk-rock band Fast Train persuaded Rush to move to Dallas. After Fast Train broke up, Rush decided to stay in Dallas and form a new band under his own name.
With his band finally constituted, composed of seasoned professionals, he was the first act to be signed to Shiner Records. This culminated in the production and release of his debut album in 2005, Llano Avenue, produced by none other than Gurf Morlix. Rush built a solid Dallas fan base by playing his rocking brand of country in any bar that would take him and to any audience that would listen.
He toured throughout Texas and beyond on the strength of that debut record and recorded his sophomore offering, Live from the River Road Icehouse while on that tour. Subsequently released in 2007, this album, which also features 2 in-studio recorded DLR mainstays, properly captures the energy of Rush’s live shows and the mix of country, rock, and emotional storytelling, which is the hallmark of a classic Texas singer/songwriter.
His third self-titled LP digs deep into conventional guitar-driven Americana without shelving the folksy nature of the stories contained therein, and was released in 2011. In recent years, Darryl Lee Rush can be seen playing choice locations in North Texas, in the Hill Country, or down on the coast near Rockport. He’s a Texas treasure and is indelibly part of Texas music culture.
Rush is currently engaged in the early stages of recording a 4th album with a tentative release date in early/mid 2025. Stay tuned for this because it will have been worth the wait!
